SATIN SLIPPER [2], THE (“An Brog Sróil” or “An Slipéar Sróil”). AKA and see "New Found Out (1) (The)." Irish, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Breathnach/Killoran). The tune (as "Satin Slipper") appears in the late 19th century collection of Alex Sutherland of County Leitrim. Sutherland was a fiddler from Drumreilly in south County Leitrim, who amassed a huge, though unpublished, collection of tunes in the early 20th century. A portion of the collection was deposited by Sutherland in the Irish Folklore Commission archives; unfortunately, the remainder was accidentally destroyed. Fiddler and accordion player Frank Quinn, from the same general region as Sutherland, recorded the tune in the 78 RPM era in New York as "New Found Out (1) (The)." See also the related “Aggie Whyte's Reel (2),” and “Séamus Connolly's Reel.”
