RICHMOND HILL [2]. AKA and see "Highland Skip (2)," "Niel Gow's Reel (1)," "Niel Gow's," "Perth Hunt (The)," "Perthshire Hunt (The)," "Pop Corn (The)," "Sailor's Trip to Liverpool (The)," "Boyne Hunt (1)." American (originally Scottish), Reel. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. The melody, a version of the Scottish reel “Perthshire Hunt (The),” appears under this title in George P. Knauff's Virginia Reels, volume II (Baltimore, 1839). Chris Goertzen, in his book George P. Knauff's Virginia Reels and the History of American Fiddling (2017, p. 60) notes that Knauff's second volume (really a pamphlet of nine tunes) contains titles that are linked geographically to 'Old Virginia.' "Richmond Hill" is a title that refers to city of Richmond, Virginia, which was originally named in honor of Richmond Hill (now part of London), England, that had an impressive view of the River Thames, just as the Virginia location had a view to the James River.
