LONDON HORNPIPE [1]. AKA and see "Navvie (The)," "Navvie on the Line," "New London Reel (1)." Canadian, American; Hornpipe. G Major (Cole, Page, Ryan): A Major (Messer). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A widely disseminated hornpipe of British provenance. See also similar British Isles tune called "Navvie (The)" or "Navvie on the Line," credited to Tyneside composer James Hill. North American tunes in the family (particularly related in the first strain) are "Montreal Hornpipe," "Reel de Sherbrooke (2)," "Reel de Montréal (1)," "Set de Vaudreuil 3ème partie," and "Old Blind Sow She Stole the Middlins." Ira Ford's (1940) "New London" is note-for-note the same tune as "London Hornpipe (1)."
