Laybourn's Köhlers’ Violin Repository, Book 2 (1881-1885) under the title "California Hornpipe" at about the same time it was printed in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883) as "Pink Eyed Lassie." However, Ryan was an employee of the Elias Howe publishing company in Boston, and the identical reel was published in Elias Howe's Musician's Omnibus Nos. 6 & 7 (1880-1882) as "Jack O'Lantern Reel."
