A. JARDINE'S REEL. Scottish, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by Annandale fiddler-composer biography:James Porteous" (1762-1847). The tune is contained in the large 1840 music manuscript collection (p. 223) of multi-instrumentalist John Rook of Waverton, near Wigton, Cumbria. The Jardine family were landowners who held vast estates in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. See note for "annotation:Old Spedlings Castle's Ghost's Dance" for an interesting tale involving ancestors of composer James Porteous and (probably) Alexander Jardine as well (there were later Sir Alexander Jardines, one being Sir Alexander Jardine, 4th Baronet, 1712–1790, another the 6th Baronet who died in 1821, and yet another--the 6th baronet's grandson, Sir Alexander Jardine, 8th Baronet, 1829–1893).
