CUCKOO'S NEST [6], THE. American, Reel (cut time). A Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. "Cuckoo's Nest [6]", a reel-time setting of the British hornpipe, somewhat altered, was collected from Irvin Yaugher, a western Pennsylvania fiddler born around the turn of the 20th century who learned it from a great uncle. A very similar version was recorded in the field in 1973 from the playing of Wirt County, W.Va., fiddler Glen Smith (1923-2001), who was raised in Virginia and who learned to fiddle there. See Bayard's note for "Cuckoo's Nest (5) (The)" for more.
