CATHERINE MARTIN. Irish, Air or Planxty (4/4 time). A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by Turlough O'Carolan (1630-1738). O'Sullivan (1958) that Catherine Martin was the daughter of Thomas Martin, of the farm of Cloghteragh, who lived on the shore of Lough Key, near Boyle, County Roscommon. An inferior version of the tune (but with a correct title) was collected by Edward Bunting (see "Caitríona Máirtín le Chearbhúlán").
Source for notated version: O'Sullivan cites the Hudson ms. as his source (with the wrong title "Ana Ni Mac a Ghabhain. Nancy Smith.")
Printed sources: Complete Collection of Carolan's Irish Tunes, 1984; No. 99, p. 76. O'Sullivan (Carolan: The Life, Times and Music of an Irish Harper), 1958; No. 99, p. 154.
