FIVE MILES FROM TOWN [1]. Old-Time, Breakdown. USA, Oklahoma. A Major (Thede): G Major. EEae, AEae or GDgd tunings (fiddle). AABB. This version has "migrated" to the key of G Major, standard tuning, according to Kerry Blech, having progressed from AEae tuning to GDgd tuning and thence to G standard. A comparison of the transcriptions in Thede and Silverberg shows how distanced versions have become.

Source for notated version: J.W. Johnson (Custer County, Oklahoma) [Thede].

Printed sources: Silberberg (Tunes I Learned at Tractor Tavern), 2002; p. 44. Thede (The Fiddle Book), 1967; pp. 20-21.
