Back to Denis O'Conor (1)
DENIS O'CONOR [1]. Irish, Planxty (6/8 time). F Major/D Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. An air and song composed by Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738) in honor of his contemporary, Denis O'Conor (1674-1750) of Belanagare. The song, according to O'Sullivan, "is said to have been sung by Carolan to the accompaniment of the harp at Belanagare on Christmas Day, 1723. O'Sullivan devotes an entire chapter (6) to "The O'Conors of Belanagare" (pp. 40-43), a family that was among Carolan's most loyal patrons (see also "Talk:Mrs. O'Conor (2)".
