Back to Jackie Stewart's New Reel
JAKIE STEWART'S REEL. AKA and see "Highland Man that Kissed His Grannie (1)." English, Reel. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A different "Jakie Stewart's Reel" appears in David Rutherford's Compleat Collection of 200 Country Dances, vol. 2 (London, 1760). Perhaps the Thompson's had the title in error, for the tune is the memorably-titled "Highland Man that Kissed His Grannie (1)," published by Robert Bremner in 1757. Bremner did publish a similarly-titled "Jacky Stewart's Reel," although it is a minor-mode tune, unrelated to the Thompsons' reel.
