MR. ALEXANDER LAWSON. Scottish, Strathspey. E Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by Alexander Walker for Alexander Lawson (b. 1843) of Mill of Newe. The Mill of Newe is approximately two miles east of the village of Bellabeg in Strathdon. Lawson found a cache of coins from the reign of Henry III in a cairn at Mill of Garochy, Aberdeenshire, and donated them to a museum. Walker also composed a stathspey, "Mill of Newe," and may have had a personal connection with Lawson.
