'''BLUFF KING HAL'''. English, Morris Dance Tune (4/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Collected by Cecil J. Sharp from the village of Bidford, in England's Cotswolds. The melody is a major key version of "Staines Morris." Sharp  did not know how it came to be called "Bluff King Hal," although it appears that the dance (and perhaps the adaptation of the tune) was "manufactured" by D'Arcy Ferris of Bidford, who revived morris dancing in the 1880's to be employed as part of a larger events or spectacles. Ferris was a part-time entrepreneur and pageant master [see Forest, '''History of Morris Dancing''', 1999].
