BONNIE STRATHMORE. Scottish, Air or Jig. A Minor (Kerr's, Lerwick): A Dorian (Gatherer). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody has a few Gaelic titles: "Comunn an t-Strath Mhòir" (The Strathmore Society), "Dean cadal 's fan sàmhach a Chuillean a Rùin (Sleep and be quiet my Darling, my Love), and "An Gille dubh sùgach" (The Merry Dark-haired Boy). A variant of "Bung Your Eye," and so also related to "The Antrim Lasses," "Tatter Jack," "The Boys of Carrigallen," and "Mount Your Baggage [1]." See note for "Lanigan's Ball." There are similarities also with Niel Gow's "Wha can help it" and the Cape Breton "Salute to Boston."

Printed sources: Gatherer (Gatherer's Musical Museum), 1987; p. 21. Kerr (Merry Melodies), vol. 3; No. 288, p. 31. Lerwick (Kilted Fiddler), 1985; p. 36.
