BONNIE STRATHMORE (Comunn an t-strath mhoir). AKA - "Bonny Strathmore." Scottish, Air or Jig (6/8 time). A Minor (Kerr's, Lerwick): A Dorian (Gatherer): A Mixolydian (Gunn). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody has a few Gaelic titles: "Comunn an t-Strath Mhòir" (The Strathmore Society), "Dean cadal 's fan sàmhach a Chuillean a Rùin (Sleep and be quiet my Darling, my Love), and "An Gille dubh sùgach" (The Merry Dark-haired Boy). A variant of the "Bung Your Eye" tune family, and as so related to "Antrim Lasses (The)," "Tatter Jack," "Boys of Carrigallen (The)," and "Mount Your Baggage (1)." See note for "Annotation:Lanigan's Ball." There are similarities also with Niel Gow's "Wha Can Help It" and the Cape Breton "Salute to Boston."
