FATHER BRIAN MACDERMOTT ROE. Irish, Planxty (3/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABB. Composed by blind Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738). Donal O'Sullivan (1958) could find no information on the subject of this air, but suggests he may have been a son of Henry and Mary MacDermott Roe. The MacDermott Roe family, of Alderford, were Carolan's principal patrons and oldest friends (O'Sullivan dedicates a chapter to them in his volume {Chapter 5, pp. 36-40}).

Source for notated version: the manuscript collection of Edward Bunting [O'Sullivan].

Printed sources: Complete Collection of Carolan's Irish Tunes, 1984; No. 84, p. 68. O'Sullivan (Carolan: The Life, Times and Music of an Irish Harper), 1958, No. 84, p. 146.
