CLYDESIDE LASSIES. AKA - "Clyde Side Lassies." Scottish, Reel. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The tune belongs to a family of melodies that includes "Maguinnis' Delight" and the "Pretty Peggy" tunes (see note for that tune). "Clydeside Lassies" is a corruption of the title "Clydesdale Lasses," by which name Nathaniel Gow published the tune in 1822 (see note for "Clydesdale Lassies"). The name Clyde comes from the Brittonic Cluth. The River Clyde marked the frontier between the old Celtic British kingdom in the north and the Picts.
