CLYDESIDE LASSIES. AKA - "Clyde Side Lassies." Scottish, Reel. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Cole, Ryan, Honeyman, White): AA'B (Balmoral, Manson). The tune belongs to a family of melodies that includes "Maguinnis' Delight" and the "Pretty Peggy" tunes (see Annotation:Pretty Peggy). "Clydeside Lassies" is a corruption of the title "Clydesdale Lasses," by which name Nathaniel Gow published the tune in 1822 (see note for "Annotation:Clydesdale Lassies").
The name Clyde comes from the Brittonic Cluth. The River Clyde marked the frontier between the old Celtic British kingdom in the north and the Picts.
