BANKS OF THE DEE. AKA and see "New Langolee (2)," "Old Morris." English, Scottish; Air, Waltz, Jig and Morris Dance Tune. G Major. England; Northumberland, Cotswolds. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD (Hall & Stafford, Raven): AABBBCCCBBB, repeat four times (Mallinson). The tune is better known as a morris dance tune, but is occasionally performed as a waltz. Mallinson's morris version is from the Fieldtown area of England's Cotswolds. The title appears in Henry Robson's list of popular Northumbrian song and dance tunes, which he published c. 1800. The melody was called "New Langolee (The)" in the manuscript collection of Captain George Bush (1753-1797), a fiddler and officer in the Continental Army during the American Revolution.
