HIGHLAND WEDDING [3], THE. English, Country Dance Tune (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was first published (along with dance instructions) in R. Baldwin's London Magazine, or Gentleman's Monthly Intelligencer in 1757. It was picked up the next year by London publisher John Johnson for his Two Hundred Favourite Country Dances, vol. 8 (1752), and by Charles and Samuel Thompson for their Compleat Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 2 (London, 1765), republished in the latter's third collection of 1773. Finally, it was published by the Thompson firm for their Twenty-Four Country Dances for 1797.
