Back to Earl of Errol
EARL OF ERROL, THE. Scottish, Reel. A Major/Mixolyidan. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by Francis Peacock, who was appointed the "sole dancing master within the burgh (of Aberdeen) during his good behavior" and who was to take "7 shillings sterling monthly from each scholar, besides paying for the music." He held the position from 1747 until his death in 1807 at the age of eighty-four. Hunter (1979) says: the fifteenth Earl of Erroll...lived at Slains and at Delgatie Castle, near Turriff. He was High Constable of Scotland and a great scholar and patron of the arts."
