Back to Petticoat Wag
PETTICOAT WAG. English, Jig. G Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. “Petticoat Wag” was published as a longways dance (“for as many as will”) in John Playford’s first edition (1651) of his long running English Dancing Master series as “Petticoat Wag.” It appeared under that title through the third edition (1665) after which it continued to appear in the Playford volumes through the 8th (1690) with the expanded title “Petticoat Wag, or The Taylor’s Daughter” [1], and as “Taylor’s Daughter (The)” in the 9th and 10th editions. It was dropped from the series after that.
