PETTICOAT WAG. English, Jig. G Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. âPetticoat Wagâ was published as a longways dance (âfor as many as willâ) in John Playfordâs first edition (1651) of his long running English Dancing Master series as âPetticoat Wag.â It appeared under that title through the third edition (1665) after which it continued to appear in the Playford volumes through the 8th (1690) with the expanded title âPetticoat Wag, or The Taylorâs Daughterâ [1], and as âTaylorâs Daughter (The)â in the 9th and 10th editions. It was dropped from the series after that.
