FANNING'S (Port an Fhionnánaigh). Irish, Jig. E Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. According to Máire O'Keefe, this tune was a great favorite of Kerry fiddler Denis Murphy's and was recorded from him by Séamus Ennis on January 29th, 1949, and subsequently included in the RTÉ publication "Denis Murphy, Music from Sliabh Luachra." Editor Jackie Small (CRE V) says the tune is related to "Clancy's Jig (2)," recorded in 1928 by accordion player P.J. Conlon in New York. The tune is sometimes miss-attributed to Fergal French.

Source for notated version: from a manuscript written by the renowned Sliabh Luachra fiddler Pádriag O'Keeffe, given to Breathnach by Jack Connell, nicknamed 'Jack the Lighthouse' [Breathnach].

Printed sources: Breathnach (CRÉ V), 1999; No. 37, p. 20.

Recorded sources: Gael-Linn CEF176, Jackie Daly - "Many's a Wild Night" (learned from manuscripts of tunes written down by Pádraig O'Keeffe for his pupil, Paddy O'Connell of Cordal, Castleisland). RTÉ CD 183, Denis Murphy - "Denis Murphy-Music from Sliabh Luachra."
