Paul Cranford wrote that he thought it likely the tune had an Irish provenance, and it is a version of the Irish "Gypsy Hornpipe (7)" or "Dan Sullivan's Favorite". However, it was also printed in Scotland in W.B. Laybourn's ' as "Fancy (The)."
