JAMES DALY. Irish, Planxty (6/8 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by blind Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738). The melody appears in John Lee's A Favourite Colleciton of the so much admired old Irish Tunes, the original and genuine compositions of Carolan, the celebrated Irish Bard (Dublin, c. 1780), and in Samuel, Ann and Peter Thompson's Hibernian Muse; a Collection of Irish Airs, including the Most Favourite Compositions of Carolan, the Celebrated Irish Bard (London, c. 1786). Donal O'Sullivan (1958) names the subject of O'Carolan's composition as James Daly of Dunsandle, near Loughrea, County Galway, who died in 1769. O'Sullivan has further geneaological details, but no further musical details.

Source for notated version: The Thompson's Hibernian Muse [O'Sullivan].
