FANCY, THE. Scottish, Hornpipe. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by violinist W.B. Laybourn, orignally from London. Laybourn lived for some years in North Shields, in the north of England, before moving to Edinburgh in the 1870's. He is the editor of Köhlers’ Violin Repository, although the frontspiece identifies the editor only as "A Professional Player".

The first strain of "The Fancy" is cognate with that of "Dan Sullivan's Favorite," "Doug MacMaster's," and "Gypsy Hornpipe (7)."
