The melody appears in the Drummond Castle Manuscript, 1734 (p. 82), in the possession of the Earl of Ancaster at Drummond Castle. It is inscribed "A Collection of the best Highland Reels written by David Young, W.M. & Accomptant." Young also included it in his subsequent manuscript collection, The MacFarlane Manuscript (c. 1740, No. 50, p. 99), "Written for the use of Walter Mcfarlan of that ilk."
