JULIANNE JOHNSON [2]. AKA - "Julie Ann Johnson." Old-time, Breakdown. D Major. Standard (Lundy) or ADae tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. Galax, Virginia, area fiddler Emmett Lundy [1] (1864-1953) recorded this tune (a different version than "Julianne Johnson (1)"), one of the few recordings he made. "It has no 'G' chord in it." Lundy was recorded in the field in 1941 by Alan and Elizabeth Lomax, along with John Work and Joseph Liss.
Greenberry Leonard (b. 1808) of Old Town township of Grayson County, Virginia, was Lundy's mentor, and was quite a bit older. The younger fiddler characterized Leonard as "an old mountain boomer” on his AFS field recordings.
