Back to March of the Thirty-Seventh Regiment
MARCH OF THE THIRTY-SEVENTH REGIMENT. AKA - "March of the 37th Regt." English, March (whole time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The 37th Regiment of Foot [1] was originally raised in 1702 in Ireland, where it was originally called by the name of a succession of Colonels. With the reorganization of the army in 1751 it was designated the 37th Regiment of Foot, and, in 1782 when the army associated regiments with counties, it became the 37th (North Hampshire) Regiment of Foot.
The melody is also contained in the Woburn (Mass.) Fife Manuscript, a ms. collection inscribed with the the name Seth Johnson and "Woburn. April 20th day, 1807. I Bought this Book, 5:3." Entries were made between 1807 and as late as 1840.
