MISTAKE [2], THE. English, Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. The melody under this title is unique to Charles and Samuel Thompson’s Compleat Collection, vol. 3 (London, 1773). However, the entire tune appears in the 1840 music manuscript of multi-instrumentalist John Rook (Waverton, Cumbria) under the title "Light and Airy (5), as well as "The Mistake" later in the collection. See also Johnny Pringle's "Miss Maria Stewart’s Jig" which shares the same first strain.
