NEW YEAR'S EVE. English, Jig (6/4 time). D Major. ADae tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was first published by Henry Playford in the First Supplement to the 7th edition of the Dancing Master (1687), and was retained in each edition through the 18th and final edition of 1728 (published at the time by John Young, heir to the Playford publishing concerns). It was also published by John Walsh in The Compleat Country Dancing Master (London, 1718), and in subsequent editions of 1731 and 1754.
