PIPER'S FANCY [1]. AKA and see "New Rigged Ship (1) (The)." English, Jig. D Major (Raven): A Major (Karpeles). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (Raven): AABBA'B' (Karpeles). A 'fancy' is a whim, idea, notion, or inspiration, as in this stanza from Mary Austin's poem "A Pipe of Oaten Straw":
Perhaps no loftier strains the shepherd knew
Than pee-whits calling the young world awake,
Or tranquil music such as hylas make
When jewel weeds drip all with starry dew,
Or cry of weanling lamb and travailing ewe,
Or rattling reeds that in the wind do quake,
Or wild, untutored melodies that brake
Across the piper's fancy while he blew.
