VIRGIN’S WISH, THE. English, Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA’BB’. The tune appears in London publisher John Johnson’s Two Hundred Favourite Country Dances, vol. 8, issued around the year 1758. The tune also appears in the commonplace book for the violin of Daniel Aborn, later added to by William Megee, begun in 1790 (continuing to around 1809).

Source for notated version: the 1823-26 music mss of papermaker and musician Joshua Gibbons (1778-1871, of Tealby, near Market Rasen, Lincolnshire Wolds) [Sumner].
