ALLUREMENT OF LOVE, THE (Serch Hudol). AKA and see “Draw Cupid Draw.” Welsh, Air (whole time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A harper’s air from Edward Jones’ Relicks (1794) and in his Cambro-British Melodies (1820). The air previously appeared in Pills to Purge Melancholy (vol. V) under the title “A Song. Set by Mr. Motley” (pp. 305-306), which begins: “Draw Cupid draw and make fai Sylvia know, The mighty Pain her suffering Swain does for her undergo" (for which see "Draw Cupid Draw"). The song was set by classical composer Joseph Haydn as one of his Welsh songs for publisher George Thomson (1757-1781), although the text was by Thomson's friend, Scottish poet Robert Burns ("To thee, lov'd Dee, thy gladsome vales").
