CANTY BRODY/BODY. AKA and see "Arndilly's Reel," "Biodag Air Mac Thòmais," "Thomson's Got a Dirk." Scottish, Reel. A Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Glen (1891) finds the tune first published in Alexander McGlashan's collection, although pieces with this name also appear in John Aitken's The Scots Musical Museum (1797) and Carr's Caledonian Muse (Philadelphia, 1798). As "Arndilly's Reel" the tune was published by Angus Cumming about the same time as McGlashan published it as "Canty Body." 'Canty' means jolly or happy in Scots dialect.
