The melody appears in the mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork cleric and uilleann piper, Canon biography:James Goodman (vol. 2, p. 134), who obtained it from the music manuscript collection of an old contemporary collector and lawyer, John Edward Pigot (1822–1871), p. 475a.
