LANCASHIRE HORNPIPE [5]. English, Hornpipe (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The hornpipe appears in the mid-19th century music manuscript of Lake District musician William Irwin (1822-1889). The first two measures of the tune are identical to "Lancashire Hornpipe (3)," but then the two melodies differ. A "Lancashire Hornpipe" from a manuscript in the Bodleian Library (MS D.54, No. 44", in 3/2 time is perhaps an ancestral tune (see "Lancaster Hornpipe (2)."
