MAGPIE. American, Reel (cut or 2/4 time). USA, North Carolina (Piedmont region). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Silberberg): AABB (Brody, Kaufman). Collected by Eric Olson, Bobbie and Tommy Thompson in 1968, and even earlier by Alan Jabbour (1966, see Library of Congress AFS 13,036), from fiddle/banjo duo Harlan Coble and William Alonzo "Lonnie" Corsbie (Guilford County, north-central N.C.). Tom Carter also collected a D Major version from Piedmont fiddler Earl Shatterly. The 'A' part of the tune is quite similar to that of "Evans Hornpipe." The tune was very popular among young old-time musicians in the "revival" of the 1970's.
