MISSISSIPPI BREAKDOWN [1]. American, Reel (cut time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABB'C. The tune was composed by the Mississippi fiddle and guitar duo William Thomas Narmour (1889-1961) and Shellie Walton Smith (1895-1968) and recorded in San Antonio, Texas, in June, 1930, for OKeh Records, although the side was not released until 1931. The duo was from Carroll County, Mississippi, in the central part of the state, well-known in their region where they played for dances, picnics, country fairs and similar venues.
