PRETTY GIRL IN DANGER, THE. Irish, Reel (whole time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'B. The tune appears as "Pretty Girl in Danger" in the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork cleric and uilleann piper Canon biography:James Goodman. Goodman manuscripts researchers Hugh and Lisa Shield find it is cognate with O'Neill's "Ewe Reel (The)" (Music of Ireland, 1903, No. 1229). They also note similarities between "Pretty Girl..." and "Marquis of Huntley's Reel" in Glasgow musician-publisher James Aird's Selection of Scotch, English, Irish and Foreign Airs, vol. 2 (1785, No. 101, p. 37), and "Marquis of Huntly's Strathspey (1) (The)" in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (Boston, 1883, p. 251), although these relationships are not as close as is "Ewe Reel."
