RIDIN' ON A HUMPBACK MULE. Old-Time, Song and Breakdown. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The piece is a variant of the "Whoa Mule" song family. The tune was recorded by the Texas groups Bill Boyd and His Cowboy Rambers, and the brother-duo The Shelton Brothers [1] in the mid-1930's. The song was written by Georgia fiddler Clayton McMichen, leader of the Georgia Wildcats and sometime member of The Skillet Lickers, and Hoyt "Slim" Bryant, copyright May, 1934.
