ROAD TO BALLINAKILL, THE. AKA and see “Tom Hackett's Dream.” Irish, Jig. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune has sometimes been credited to flute player Mike Rafferty, whose birthplace was the East Galway town of Ballinakill. Perhaps Rafferty re-titled a tune he had no name for, for a compelling claim comes from County Meath musician Owen Hackett, who wrote the tune for his father, as “Tom Hackett's Dream.” The jig was recorded in 1980 by the Boys of the Lough on their album “Regrouped” under the title “Owen Hacket's Jig.”
