SAM CORMIER REEL. Canadian, Reel (2/4 time). E Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB’. The tune was composed by Ottawa fiddler Denis Lanctot (originally from Quebec), in honor of Cape Breton fiddler Sam Cormier. The tune was picked up by visiting Irish fiddler Brid Harper (originally from Castlefin, Donegal, removed to County Tyrone) sometime in the 1980's, and was played in concert by her in a medley of tunes that she had no titles for, although she did credit Lanctot as the composer. Imitators of her version then applied her name to it, and it is also known as "Brid Harper's (4)."
