SCOTCH LADY [2]. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The tune and directions for a country dance were first published in London by John Johnson in his Choice Collection of 200 Favorite Country Dances, vol. 6 (1751, p. 24), and in John Hinton's peridical Universal Magazine of Knowledge and Pleasure (1751, p. 31). London musician Thomas Hammersley entered the melody into his 1790 music manuscript collection.
