BLACKHALL HOUSE QUICK STEP. Scottish, March. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by Kirkmichael, Perthshire, fiddler and composer Robert Petrie. It appears in his Second Collection of Strathspey Reels and County Dances (1795, p. 12), a volume dedicated to his patron and employer, Mrs. Garden of Troup. The title perhaps references Blackhall Manor, Paisley, Renfrewshire, an ancient site of successive homes that was the seat of a branch of the Stewarts until 1700, when they moved to a new manor house. Subsequently the building was a farmhouse and store, until abandoned in disrepair. The dilapidated structure was saved from demolition in the late 20th century and was restored as a private residence.
