GOLDEN WEDDING REEL [1]. AKA and see "Farmer's Reel (2)" (Prince Edward Island), "Richibucto Reel" (New Brunswick). Canadian, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The composition is credited to Canadian radio and TV fiddler Don Messer in the Mel Bay publication that bears his name, however, other tunes in the book also credited to Messer are obviously traditional (e.g. "Billy in the Lowground"). Messer, originally from New Brunswick, did feature this tune in his playing repertoire and it has become a Canadian "Down East"-style standard, heard sometimes in the New England repertoire as well.

Source for notated version: Jerry Robichaud (Canada) [Hinds/Hebert]; Ruthie Dornfeld (Seattle) [Phillips].

Printed sources: Guest (100 Favorite Fiddle Tunes), 1980. Hinds/Hebert (Grumbling Old Woman), 1981; p. 14. Messer (Anthology of Favorite Fiddle Tunes), 1980; No. 71, p. 46. Phillips (Traditional American Fiddle Tunes), vol. 1, 1994; p. 99.

Recorded sources: Voyager 310, Jerry Robichaud - "Down East Fiddling" (1973). Philo PH 2000, "Louis Beaudoin" (1973).
