ACADEMY JIG, THE. Scottish (?), Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning. AABB. The composition is attributed to one J. Rule, according to Kerr’s. Although the title probably refers to a dancing academy, an ‘academy’ was also early 19th century slang for a brothel [Grose, 1811 Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue].
