Back to Cairngorm Brooch
CAIRNGORM BROOCH. AKA and see "Old Reel (The)." Scottish, Canadian; Reel. Canada; Cape Breton. A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A Scottish variant of the "Flowers of Limerick (1) (The)," "Bunch of Keys (1)" tune family. As "The Old Reel" it can be found in J. Davies' Caledonian Repository (1829). A Caringorm brooch is a pin made of a smoky yellow or brown quartz, used as a gem stone, found in the Cairngorm mountains.
