CAPTAIN MAGAN. Irish, Planxty (6/8 time). G Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by blind Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738). O'Sullivan believes 'Captain Magan' is the same person as Morgan Magan (d. 1738) of Togherstown, County Westmeath, the subject of a popular O'Carolan air called "Morgan Magan."

Source for notated version: John and William Neale's book of Carolan compositions (Dublin, c. 1721) [O'Sullivan].

Printed sources: Complete Collection of Carolan's Irish Tunes, 1984; No. 93, p. 73. Mulholland (Ancient Irish Airs), 1810; p. 28. O’Sullivan (Carolan: The Life, Times and Music of an Irish Harper), 1958; No. 93, p. 151.
