CHESTNUT TREE, THE. Canadian, Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by Mabou, Cape Breton, fiddler and composer Donald Angus Beaton (1912-1982), one of the great dance fiddlers of his generation. His son Kinnon Beaton told Randy Miller that the tune was named after a tree his father had planted on his property, "which grew quite nicely."

Printed source: Miller (Fiddler's Throne), 2004; p. 24.
